My Story
In June 2024, I officially said goodbye to a business I set up in 2014 called Career Projections. Career Projections sought to improve students academically through a variety of means, designed to create a holistic approach to learning and development, catering especially to those who are returning to education after a long period or those who are trying to juggle both career and academic life.

Since 2017, my main cohort have essentially been executive/corporate students and those returning to education after a long absence. You will see from the old site here just how varied the services were and how I had filled many gaps I had seen from working in the academic world over the years. I accumulated a lot of knowledge and strategies, which I used in my role as consultant and in my presentations and workshops.

However, since the beginning of 2023, I had noticed a downturn in my activities due to the presence of AI, which chipped away at most of my foundational services such as editing, proofreading and thesis consultation, with ChatGPT being the main culprit. It did not matter that the tool was not particularly useful (at least for students in 2023) or that it was used haphazardly, leading to many hallucinatory thesis submissions that year and the following. What mattered in terms of my business is that it had been used to such a degree that I was no longer useful… or at least perceived to be useful.

And so in the summer of 2023, I began my own journey and research into AI, eventually producing a suite of videos (which are still ongoing) and doing a great deal of work visiting colleges and talking about AI, as well as changing my services to now include ethical AI usage. With that change, it seemed right to allow Career Projections to complete its journey and to allow myself to return to more traditional educational employment.

With that end comes a new beginning in terms of my previous role and so I decided to just roll everything under the banner of my own name. These days, instead of demystifying the academic process, I now demystify the AI process, hoping to guide people toward a more ethical usage. Not only for students but for academic staff also, for which the tool can be of enormous benefit, both directly (in their own work) and indirectly (in navigating the work of students).

Let’s work on something great together.

The future is here. So don’t let it pass you by!
